Associate

We are looking to hire an Associate to join our investment team to help us find, analyze and make investments across our venture investment platform. While this provides the opportunity to learn about and get exposure to the venture capital business in all its forms, we are asking the individual to be slightly more oriented towards our secondary fund practice.

What’s Involved

Investing

  • As a core member of our tight-knit investment team, you will take part in the full spectrum of venture capital investing while playing a key role in the Firm’s secondary investment strategy.
  • Work with the secondary deal team lead to complete diligence steps on live fund secondary
    processes to include: detail review of return models prepared by analyst team members, making recommendations for company underwriting, completion of partner presentation materials, assist with the bidding and closing processes.
  • Assist with the sourcing and evaluation of potential venture fund and expansion stage company investment opportunities, and make recommendations to the Partnership
  • Monitor a sub-set of the existing Greenspring fund and company portfolio, reporting to the
    investment team on progress and projections, and preparing quarterly reports for our investors
  • Perform broad scale industry research and analysis to learn about and understand industry
    landscapes within our focus areas, and advise the broader investment team accordingly
  • Your opinion will be highly valued and your initiative to dive into white spaces and help the
    entire GA partnership learn about new industry focus areas will be welcomed.
  • Participating in the planning and execution of the Firm’s Annual Meeting in Deer Valley, Utah.

Skills Required:

  • Prior secondaries experience with strong understanding of secondaries market and investment process preferred but not required

Director of Portfolio Impact

Greenspring Associates is currently seeking an experienced leader to join and manage our Portfolio Impact team, which is fully dedicated to supporting the venture capital firms and portfolio companies in which Greenspring has directly or indirectly invested by facilitating mutually beneficial connections to potential customers, strategic partners, service providers, executive talent and investors. For this particular role, we are looking for someone to lead our Corporate Network initiative and accelerate our efforts in establishing and strengthening relationships with senior corporate executives such as CIOs, CTOs and Innovation leaders. Primarily, this person would help these executives navigate the VC ecosystem by identifying and connecting them with the 120+ VC firms and 6,000+ underlying portfolio companies within our network. Responsibilities would include defining the overarching strategy for the Corporate Network, attending and running networking events and executive briefings that connect our entrepreneurs and executives, and advising corporate innovation groups on market scans and other activities.

While this role must be based out of our Owings Mills, MD office there will be discretion to travel as needed for meetings with executives, investors and portfolio companies. This person could potentially be based remotely, but spending a majority of most weeks in our Baltimore office is required. Greenspring is looking for the right person for the role and plan to tailor compensation and title to the individual. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT AN INVESTMENT ROLE AND THERE IS NO LONGER TERM PATH TO BECOMING AN INVESTOR WITHIN GREENSPRING.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and foster deep relationships with members of the Greenspring Associates network including venture capitalists and portfolio company management teams
  • Build strong relationships with C-Suite corporate executives by helping them identify and connect with relevant
  • Organize networking events, such as our annual CIO Tech Day, and run executive briefings that that connect startups with corporate executives representing prospective customers, partners, and/or investors
  • Differentiate Greenspring from its competitors by designing and implementing new value-add initiatives
  • Manage our Corporate Network and track value-added interactions through Salesforce, Domo and other tools like Affinity
  • Lead other strategic initiatives and Portfolio Impact projects as necessary

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience within venture capital, corporate innovation, or corporate relations/business development at an organization relevant within ecosystem (e.g. accelerator, incubator, scouting firm, etc.)
  • Significant experience connecting corporations to entrepreneurs and emerging technologies
  • Strong understanding of the venture capital, startup and corporate innovation ecosystems
  • Experience advising VC-backed companies on growth and operational challenges
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, be responsive, manage varied tasks and work within a team
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in written form
  • Willingness to travel as needed to conferences, events and meetings across U.S.

Summer Analyst (2019), Investment Team

Summer Analysts will be responsible for supporting the activities of the investment team in analyzing, monitoring and researching both potential and existing fund and direct investments. Education is also a significant component of the program, as Summer Analysts will gain insight into the broader venture capital ecosystem through data-driven research projects, hands-on learning with the investment team and participation in weekly calls with the broader partnership.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities for the Summer Analyst position include:

  • Performing quantitative analysis, including company, manager and performance modeling and valuation
  • Conducting company, manager and industry research
  • Participating in due diligence calls with company management teams and General Partners
  • Assisting in all aspects of the transaction, whether fund, direct or secondary
  • Communicating investment recommendations through written work, including one-page summaries and investment memorandums
  • Developing and maintaining proprietary transaction and market intelligence
  • Performing investment monitoring analysis in support of the investment team
  • Performing other ad hoc projects that reflect the broader needs of the Firm

Desired Skills and Experience:

Most importantly, ideal candidates should display strong attention to detail, a highly professional manner and a dedication to maintaining the Firm’s existing relationships within the venture capital community.

Specific qualifications for the Analyst position include:

  • Related course work in Economics, Finance, Accounting and Business preferred
  • Related internship experience in finance, management consulting or start-ups preferred
  • Strong analytical, writing and technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • A professional presence coupled with the relationship skills to interact effectively with internal and external parties
  • A highly-motivated self-starter with the ability to work both independently and within a team context

Fund Accountant

We are currently offering a Fund Accountant position in our Finance department.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Primarily responsible for the financial reporting of a number of Greenspring Investment Funds. This position will report to the CFO and is supervised by the Controller Financial Reporting Manager.

The financial reporting function will require this position to do the following:

  • Prepare weekly accounting schedules
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and bank reconciliations
  • Prepare quarterly financial statements
  • Prepare schedules for the annual audit and interact with auditors for year-end audit
  • Assist in managing cash flow needs
  • Assist in preparation of fund communications for our investors, including Limited Partner requests
    • Distribution and Capital Call Notifications
    • Assist in quarterly reports
    • Assist with K-1 and tax related forms
    • Assist with LP Transfers
  • Maintain financing document files
  • Maintain general ledgers
  • Maintain partner database
  • Create and maintain an effective control environment
  • Assist in file maintenance/organization and other administrative tasks
  • Various other tasks, projects and deadlines that arise in relation to above
